SOKY Athletes Lead Wellness Wednesday Sessions

Partnership with Kentucky Inclusive Health Collaborative
Promotes Healthy Behaviors

Wellness WednesdaySOKY athlete leaders together with Healthy Athletes clinical directors will be presenting Wellness Wednesdays for three weeks in August. The sessions, which are held in conjunction with the Kentucky Inclusive Health Collaborative, will focus on teaching healthy eating behaviors. Each session will be led by a different Special Olympics Athlete Leader with the support of a clinical director. The sessions begin on August 12 and run through August 26. Every session starts at 10 am (ET) and will last about 30 minutes. They will be presented via Zoom and you must register in advance.

On August 12, Morgan Turner will present on healthy snacking. DesaRae Nickell will discuss building a healthy plate on August 19. And Katie Williams will cover portion size on August 26.

“We’re very excited about this opportunity to work with the Kentucky Inclusive Health Collaborative to produce Wellness Wednesdays,” Said Special Olympics Kentucky Vice President of Field and Athlete Services Kim Satterwhite. “Especially at a time when our regular Healthy Athletes events have been curtailed, this is a great way to remind athletes about the importance of healthy eating habits. And we are so proud of our athlete leaders for the role they are playing in this effort.”
