SOKY Eyes Phased Sports Reopening

Special Olympics SoftballAs the weather turns better and parts of the state are able to reopen, we know our athletes are looking forward to a time when they can get back out and compete.Currently, all Special Olympics Kentucky activity remains suspended through June 15, but as the Governor has announced the restarting of youth and other sports, we are also looking at what restarting Special Olympics sports in the state might look like.

We anticipate that our reopening will be phased in slowly in the same way the State of Kentucky is working. SOKY will release sport-specific documents that will provide information about participation in more detail. We do anticipate that there will be additional restrictions on participation out of concern for our athletes and coaches who may have health conditions that would make them more vulnerable to COVID-19.

We are all looking forward to returning to the sports programs we love and we all hope that day is coming soon, but we are and will remain 100% committed to the health and safety of the people who mean so much to us.

If you have any questions about reopening procedures or about individual sports, contact Hunter Brislin at [email protected] or 502-695-8222.
