St. Athanasius Event to Host Special Olympics Championship

Louisville Llamas

The Louisville Llamas show off their Advanced division championship trophy at the 2016 State Competition.

The Special Olympics Kentucky State Cheerleading Competition will return to Louisville on Saturday, Feb. 25, when the St. Athanasius Cheerleading Competition once again hosts our athletes as part of their event.

Squads will compete in levels from beginner to elite, as well as in a Unified division for squads that include Special Olympics athletes and members who do not have an intellectual disability.

This year 14 teams have qualified for the State Competition by taking part in regional tournaments in late January and early February.

All three Special Olympics Kentucky cheerleading competitions were held as part of larger events that included non Special Olympics squads. These events give our athletes the opportunity to compete in larger environments and display their abilities for larger crowds.
