Rupp Arena to Host Unified Clinic and Game
On Wednesday, Feb. 22, Special Olympics Kentucky athletes will take to one of the most hallowed courts in basketball history when Rupp Arena will host the first Unified basketball night in the facility’s history.
Approximately 50 SOKY basketball players will have the opportunity to take part in a skills clinic that will open the evening. The clinic will be taught by former UK Basketball greats and include skills stations around the court.
Following the clinic, 20 athletes will take part in a Unified game that will include the UK greats and other invited guests as Unified partners.
The event will conclude with tours of the UK locker room for the players and their guests.
The Unified clinic and game were made possible through a national partnership between Special Olympics and Learfield Sports, which manages the marketing for Rupp Arena.
“We’re very excited that Learfield and Rupp Arena have given our athletes this opportunity to take the floor at Rupp Arena,” said Special Olympics Kentucky President and CEO Trish Mazzoni. “Like so many basketball players in central Kentucky, a lot of our athletes are huge Kentucky Wildcats fans and they shared the same dream of being able to play on the Rupp Arena  floor. This event gives them their chance.”
Our thanks to Keith Burdette and his team at Rupp Arena Sports & Events Marketing for making the Unified clinic and game possible.
