Track and Field Coaches Clinic Announced (March 12)

Special Olympics Kentucky will hold a Track and Field Coaches Clinic on Sunday, April 8, at the Mason County Indoor Athletic Complex, located at 721 Clarks Run Road in Maysville. For more information, contact Hunter Brislin at 502-695-8222 or hbrislin@soky.org.

NEW UNIFIED SPORTS COURSE RELEASED (Dec. 21)

ATTENTION SOKY UNIFIED SPORTS COACHES!!! Special Olympics North America teamed up with NFHS, ESPN, the NFL Foundation and the U.S. Office of Special Education Programs at the U.S. Department of Education to bring you the new online course for Unified Sports Coaches.  This free one hour long course is designed to explain Special Olympics Unified Sports and offer guidance on how to become a successful Unified Sports coach.  Hosted by ESPN’s Kevin Negandhi, the course includes historical background, testimonials, tutorials and quizzes to keep the audience engaged from beginning to end.

Please click the title (link) to take the course – Anyone who is interested coaching Unified Sports for SOKY is highly encouraged to take this course. If you are already coaching a Unified Sport, you must complete the course if you haven’t already taken the previous Unified Sports Course. If you don’t already have a profile on NFHSLearn.com you must create one prior to taking the course to receive credit. Once completed please send certificate of completion to Hunter Brislin at hbrislin@soky.org. This class also counts as a recertification course for ANY coach that completes it.

Basketball Coaches Clinic Coming at Thomas More College (Nov. 28)

Special Olympics Kentucky will hold a Basketball Coaches Clinic at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills on Sunday, December 10, from 4-8 pm. Cost for coaches is $10.

2017 Marshall County Special Olympics Basketball Camp Date Announced (Oct. 16)

Attention SOKY Coaches!! Marshall County Special Olympics will be hosting a basketball FUNdamentals camp for all SOKY athletes, new and returning basketball players on Oct. 21. Please see this flyer or click the title link above to see further details about registration.

External Resources Available for Coaches (Sept. 21)

Attention SOKY Coaches!! Do you find yourself always looking to learn and grow as a Coach? The link above is a great external resource that has many different courses/classes that will enhance your skills and enable you to gain valuable knowledge as a coach. Though these classes are tailored for interscholastic sports, the information is fairly general and can most certainly be applied to the general sports world. Classes include Fundamentals of Coaching, First Aid, and Concussion Courses. You will even earn a certificate of completion for every class you take!

Special Olympics Autism Training Class Announced (Sept. 14)

SOKY Coaches, Autism cases and diagnosis are growing in astounding numbers. This means that the number of SOKY athletes with Autism is trending up as well. With that being said, SOKY is incredibly happy to announce that we have added an autism training class to our Coach Education program, and more specifically as a recertification option. We’ve heard from many of our coaches who have said they need more information to help better serve those with autism, as more and more athletes with autism are joining their team.

SOKY Announces New Athlete Medical Policy (Sept. 6, 2017)

SOKY has adopted a new medical policy regarding when updated medical forms need to be submitted in order to keep an athlete eligible to participate. Please take note and keep your athletes in the game!
