2021 Winter Sports Start to Take Shape

Winter Sports UpdatesAs we close out the 2020 Fall Sports season with the Virtual State Bowling Tournament, the upcoming Winter Sports season has started to take shape with guidance available for Winter Games events, basketball and cheerleading.

Skiing/Snowshoeing
Dry-land training is ok to begin for both skiing and snowshoeing according to standard SOKY COVID guidelines. Skiers will be able to start practicing at ski facilities beginning on Dec. 15. We are still hopeful to be able to hold some form of Winter Games on our traditional week in January. If that’s possible, the event would most likely be held Monday, Jan. 25-Tuesday, Jan. 26.

Basketball
Because of the current COVID spike in Kentucky, we have pushed the start of basketball Phase 1 reopening back to Nov. 10. Once basketball practices are allowed, practices should remain skills-oriented to allow for greater distancing. During Phase 1, no scrimmaging among your own team or with others is allowed.

There will be additional information about basketball as it becomes available.

Cheerleading
Cheerleading practice has been allowed since Oct. 15. Cheerleading squads who are practicing should observe all social distancing requirements while doing so. All high-touch objects like megaphones, pompons, signs, etc. should not be shared and should be disinfected before and after each use.
