SO College Clubs Taking Off at WKU, U of L
SO College Unified Football, Basketball Leagues
First of Their Kind in Kentucky
Special Olympics College Clubs function as an official club on campus and connect college students and individuals with intellectual disabilities through sport to build friendships and help lead the social justice movement of Special Olympics. Special Olympics College Club programs are made up of three core elements: Unified Sports, Youth Leadership, and opportunities for Full Campus Engagement. Together these components can help students work for and with Special Olympics athletes to help transform school campuses into communities of inclusion and respect.
This school year marks the first year Special Olympics Kentucky, with financial support from ESPN, has formally partnered with our college communities in the state to offer Unified Sports. Western Kentucky University and the University of Louisville brought Unified Intramurals to campus, building opportunities for Kentucky athletes from the local area to experience college Intramural sports. Each school’s recreational department brought a level of enthusiasm that has been infectious to their community. WKU kicked off the year with a Flag Football season while U of L chose to host a 4v4 Basketball Tournament. Combined, it brought over 100 individuals together to play and share in the joys of the sport!
U of L and WKU both are gearing up for the next spring sport to be offered. U of L will host a full basketball league with championship starting Feb 12 from 5:30 – 8 at the Student Rec Center. Be sure to check out the below link to learn more about our SO College Programs.
