Kentucky will be represented in the Basketball competition at the National Games by the Owensboro Bulls. The Bulls are the defending 1A Special Olympics State Basketball Champions. They earned the right to be considered for the Team Kentucky slot by winning their state championship at the State Basketball Tournament in Louisville in March.

Coaches

Head Coach Jeff Johnson has been coaching Special Olympics athletes for 12 years. In addition to his work with the Bulls, he also coaches softball and track. Johnson, a youth service center assistant director with the Owensboro Public Schools, coached pentathlete Dewayne Jarboe to a gold medal at the 2004 Special Olympics Kentucky State Summer Games. This will be Johnson’s first experience coaching at the National or World Games level.

Assistant Coach Jammia Joska has coached Special Olympics athletes for four years all in basketball. A practical living teacher with the Owensboro School district, Joska will be making her first trip to a Special Olympics National or World Games event.

Athletes

	Sue Ann Daugherty of Owensboro is a longtime Special Olympics athlete who has been involved in basketball for three years. She also plays softball and golf and competes in bowling and track and field. Daugherty, 56, is the oldest athlete who will be participating at the National Games as part of Team Kentucky. This will be her first World or National Games competition.
	Walt Drake of Louisville has been involved in Special Olympics for 11 years and playing Special Olympics basketball for four. His a former Owensboro resident who graduated from Owensboro High School. Drake, 22, also competes in Track and Field. This will be his first Special Olympics National or World Games competition.
	David Fogle of Utica is a veteran of two Special Olympics World Summer Games competitions, but this will be his first time competing in basketball. Fogle, 35, competed as a powerlifter at the 1991 World Summer Games in Minneapolis, Minn. ,and in the 1995 World Summer Games in New Haven, Connecticut. Fogle, who works at the Opportunity Center, has participated in Special Olympics for 20 years and also competes in powerlifting, track and field and softball.
	David Goatee of Owensboro has been a Special Olympics athlete for five years, competing in basketball, softball and track and field. Goatee, 16, is a student at Owensboro High School. He will be competing in his first National or World Games event.
	Chad McCarty of Owensboro has been involved in Special Olympics for four years, competing in golf and track and field in addition to basketball. McCarty, 19, will be graduating from Owensboro High School in May. He is making his first trip to a Special Olympics National or World Competition.
	Joseph Sapp of Owensboro has been in Special Olympics for four years. A student at Owensboro High, he competes in softball as well as basketball. Sapp, 15, will also be making his first appearance in a Special Olympics National or World Games competition.
	Dustin Smith of Owensboro has been involved in Special Olympics for three years, competing in softball and track and field in addition to basketball. A student at Owensboro High School and the brother of teammate Martin Smith, Dustin, 16, is competing in his first Special Olympics National or World competition.
	Martin Smith of Owensboro has been involved in Special Olympics for fie years. Like his younger brother Dustin, Martin also competes in softball and track and field as well as basketball. Martin, 18, graduates from Owensboro High School in May. He will also be competing in his first National or World Games.
	Scott Warren of Owensboro has been active in Special Olympics for eight years. He competes in bowling, powerlifting, track and field and swimming as well as basketball. Warren, a 22-year-old Apollo High School graduate, will be making his first trip to a Special Olympics National or World competition.
	Chris Willis of Owensboro is the only other World Games veteran on the Bulls roster. He swam at the 1999 World Summer Games in Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, N.C. Willis, 40, has been involved in Special Olympics for many years, competing in bowling, track and field, basketball and swimming. He works at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro.
