Frequently Asked Questions
What types of vehicles can be donated?
We accept running and non-running cars. We do ask that your car have at least two inflated tires and be in a tow accessible location, such as a driveway or on a street. Special Olympics Kentucky also accepts trucks, motorcycles, boats, planes, snowmobiles, heavy machinery, trailers and RVs on a case-by-case basis. If you have questions about a vehicle you’d like to donate, give us a call at (888) 828-0022.
What documents do I need to donate my car?
You’ll need to have a clear title in order to complete your car donation. If you can’t find your title, you’ll have to apply for a duplicate title. Instructions on how to sign your Kentucky title over to our authorized agent, Advanced Remarketing Services, can be found here or you can call our processing center at (888) 828-0022 and a customer service representative can walk you through the process.
How much money will Special Olympics receive from my car donation?
Our trusted agent, Advanced Remarketing Services, returns 75-80% of the gross selling price of your car back to Special Olympics, the highest of any vehicle donation program!
How do you write off a donated car on taxes?
Within 30 days of the sale of your vehicle, you’ll receive an email with a tax receipt for your car donation. If your car sold for over $500, you can claim the full selling price when you itemize taxes. If it sold for less than $500, you can claim the fair market value up to $499.
