As a way to keep our athletes engaged, SOKY Athlete Leadership Program participants and graduates were asked to share essays with their thoughts about their time away from the sports they love during the COVID-19 shutdown.

Athletes David Boyer of Bullitt East and Emme Harrod of Martha Layne Collins were honored as the Special Olympics Male and Female Athlete of the Year at the Courier-Journal Sports Awards.

The annual Art Competition held as part of Summer Games was lost with the Games themselves, so we started a Virtual Art Competition. Out of more than 70 entries, we’re proud to announce our four winners.

We know with the weather turning better and the state slowly reopening that our athletes are eager to get back to the sports they love. SOKY is working on a phased return to activity plan with that in mind.

In keeping with the guidance from the Governor’s office on the phased reopening of the state, Special Olympics Kentucky is extending the suspension of all Special Olympics Activities through June 15, 2020. We are working on developing policies for our potential reopening.

Even though the 2020 Summer Games were cancelled SOKY will still celebrate the Games and our athletes with the Salute to Summer Games May 18-June 6.

Art is one of the many ways our athletes show off their talent and creativity. With the cancellation of the State Summer Games, SOKY is holding a Virtual Art Contest to replace the one held annual at the Games.

SOKY has teamed with Ohio Valley Wrestling and Norton Sports Performance to help keep athletes and others #HealthyAtHome with Fit Friday workouts.
