Spring Sports in Full Swing!
Spring Sports Have Taken Off Across the State
It’s time to get excited about the 2021 Special Olympics Kentucky spring sports season! Athletes in some parts of the state have already begun practice and more are moving toward start dates as we get ready for a safe return to in-person spring sports after the 2020 season was interrupted and eventually had to be cancelled.
Swimming was the first sport to get into action with some SOKY swim teams starting practice right after the beginning of the new year. We were able to hold our first swim meet in almost two years on March 27 at Falling Springs in Versailles. Qualified swimmers are now pointed to the State Summer Games on June 5
Track and Field practices were given the green light to get underway beginning on March 1 with the implementation of all SOKY Return to Play guidelines. Track and Field Meets will be held across the state starting on April 10 in Bowling Green and Somerset. Athletes must compete in an Area Track and Field Meet to qualify for the Summer Games.

Area 1 – Saturday, April 24; Location TBD, Murray
Area 2 – Saturday April 24; Owensboro Middle School
Area 3 & 9 – Saturday, April 24; Johnson Central High School, Paintsville

Bocce practices have started across the state with teams preparing for the State Summer Games.
Soccer teams have now begun practice and are getting ready for Regional Soccer Tournaments. We are excited to have Racing Louisville FC and Louisville City FC hosting a regional tournament for us this year on April 18 at their fantastic training ground just outside Downtown Louisville. The second Regional Tournament will be held on May 2 in Versailles at the WCYSA facility.
All of these sports along with Rhythmic Gymnastics are expected to culminate in a modified 2021 State Summer Games that will be held Saturday, June 5, at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. We are very excited to get back to spring sports this year and back to our home at EKU. We hope to see many of you there.
