Today at the World Summer Games – June 19
After a stunning Opening Ceremony on Saturday, both the Unified golf team of Lexington’s Wake Mullins and Russellville rhythmic gymnast Lee Dockins had yesterday off to rest and prepare. Today Mullins and Gaines became the first Kentucky athletes to start competition at the World Summer Games when they teed off today at Bad Saarow Golf Course just outside Berlin for their divisioning round in the 18-hole Unified alternate shot competition.
Paired with Denmark’s Annelene Mortensen and partner Rikke Henningsen, Mullins and Gaines started their round on the 10th hole. They got off to a fast start shooting 39 for their opening nine. They followed that with a 48 on their closing (front) nine for a total of 87. The division round is used to determine what teams Mullins and Gaines will be competing against for medals later in the competition.
Tomorrow at the World Summer Games
Dockins will begin competition in rhythmic gymnastics when she takes the floor for the All-Around competition at City Cube in Berlin. Rhythmic gymnastics is one of the sports being live-streamed by ESPN, so you will likely be able to see much of Dockins’ competition. Her events will run from 12:30-3:30 pm Berlin time, which is 6:30-9:30 am ET/5:30-8:30 am CT.
Mullins and Gaines will tee it up for their second round at Bad Saarow at 10 am Berlin time, 4 am ET/3 am CT.
