Help Us Salute the Summer Games in May and June
Salute to Summer Games Seeks to Celebrate Everything We Love About the Games
While we’re all disappointed that we had to cancel the State Summer Games for the first time in our history, that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate everything that makes the Summer Games so special. SOKY is planning to do just that in the weeks leading up to what would have been Summer Games weekend with the Salute to Summer Games. And we hope you’ll join us!
The Salute will begin on May 18 and will include stories on our social media channels of athletes and what they say makes the Summer Games special to them. The Salute will culminate with a special 15-minute video presentation on our Facebook page and YouTube Channel that will give an in-depth look at all of the activities that make up Summer Games and feature comments from some of the athletes, Unified partners, coaches, volunteers and sponsors who help make the Games what they are. That will be available beginning at 6:30 pm (EDT) on Friday, June 5, right about the time we would have been gathering for this year’s Opening Ceremonies. Make sure you follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram so you don’t miss any of it.
The Salute to Summer Games will also feature a fundraising campaign that seeks to help secure the future of Special Olympics Kentucky programming when we are able to return to the field. Our goal is to raise at least $11,300 – $1 for every active Special Olympics Kentucky athlete – between May 18 and June 6. You can help by making a donation of any amount; or by signing up to be a Champion for Special Olympics Kentucky, creating a Facebook fundraiser and helping us raise the funding needed for our ongoing sports, health and Unified Champion Schools programs. Past Summer Games sponsor LBX Corporation will provide matching funds for a portion of the campaign.
Support for the Salute to Summer Games is a great way to honor our athletes and help us ensure the sports they love are here for years to come. If we can find 100 Champions willing to raise $113 each (a penny for each athlete), we can achieve our goal. For more details or to make a donation visit the Salute to Summer Games Web site.
