Team Kentucky is Set to Fly to Florida

The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will host most of the USA Games competition.

Close to a year of anticipation comes to an end for the members of Team Kentucky, when they depart for the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games on Saturday, June 4. The team will gather in Louisville the night before to make sure everything is ready to go for the trip.

The team will depart the hotel at 7 am on June 4 to head to Orlando for what promises to be one of the most exciting USA Games weeks in history. During the Games athletes will be housed on the Walt Disney World property.

The Opening Ceremonies for the Games will be held early on Sunday, June 5, at Exploria Stadium – the home of Orlando City SC of Major League Soccer and the Orlando Pride of the National Women’s Soccer League. The event gets underway at 9:30 am.

Competition begins in all sports on Monday, June 6. Most events will be held at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Golf and bowling will be held at off-site venues. Our bocce athletes will compete at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

There will be many activities for athletes during the Games when they are not competing. On the Thursday evening of the Games, athletes will take part in a VIP event at Disney’s Animal Kingdom where only athletes, coaches and family members will be in the park. Throughout the week, there will be evening activities in the Athletes Village and there will also be opportunities to visit the Healthy Athletes venue.

There will be many ways to follow Team Kentucky at the Games. We will be posting regular updates throughout the week on our social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. There will be a nightly update of each day’s events and a preview of the next day’s action posted on our Web site. And photos each day will be posted to our Flickr site. You can also download the official USA Games app for iPhone or Android and follow our athletes’ progress there.
